Mike Slack's New Orleans Jazz Band is an exciting smaller group spun off from the San Francisco Feetwarmers and featuring

o Pete Main or Bob Embry on clarinet
   o Mike Slack on cornet
   o Bill DeKuiper on guitar
o Tom Clark on string bass

The musical sparks really fly between Mike Slack and the group ........... these guys put the hot in "hot" music.
This sophisticated New Orleans style quartet sometimes adds
   o Darby Tanko (vocals)

They deliver exciting swinging numbers like Sidney Bechet's "Coal Black Shine," exquisite gems like Willie the Lion Smith's "Echo of Spring," Darby singing "Until the Real Thing Comes Along," "St. Louis Blues," "Mack the Knife" and more....
They had a long resdency at the Baltic Square Pub, 135 Park Place, Point Richmond, CA.    They continued at the same venue which reopened as the Royal Oak Pub.

A top drawer popular band, ideal for parties, small functions and fund raisers anywhwere in the Bay Area.

Responding to popular demand, they worked with Mike Cogan of Bay Records to produce two superb, seriously hot CD's.
First is titled "Runnin' Wild" and features Bob Embry on reeds plus vocals by Darby.
The second CD is titled "West End Blues" , features Jim Rothermel (reeds), blues by Darby and was released early June 2009.

"Mike Slack's New Orleans Jazz Band was fantastic at the Hangtown Jazz Festival in October. They brewed up a storm of great high energy New Orleans jazz for large crowds at the Cosmic cafe. Wonderful music. "
         .........Lee Monthi, member STJS

On their March 19 performance at the Baltic:
"(You guys play) pure New Orleans stuff; I should know - having pub crawled New Orleans four times I can attest to the authenticity. And the clarinet player is out of this world - what a showman."
         .........Carol Dutcher (musician)

"What a pleasure to hear this remarkable jazz band .... they work together in a natural complementary style, anticipating each other's musical contributions and creating a perfect (New Orleans) ensemble style.   Darby Tanko adds superb vocals, performed with enthusiasm and professionalism.   Great sound!"
.........Barbara Matthews, former President of NOJCNC
